Falcons Flat, Suffer First Loss to Knights 5-0
On an overcast, blustery day at Bottegal field with wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour, the visiting Bishop O'Connell Knights squared off against the Falcons handing them their first loss of the season, 5-0. Winning Knights pitcher, James Essex, RHP, 2011, nearly went the distance throwing close to 100 pitches in 40-degree weather while keeping Falcons hitters at bay.
The Falcons never were able to string together successive hits. Falcon bats were for the most part silent on the day except for doubles into right by AJ Bowman, DH, 2010 and Kyle Porter, LF, 2010 (Florida Gulf Coast), a single to left by George Smith, Jr., CF, 2010 (LaSalle), and a late infield hit by Matt Kohn, RF, 2010 (Hopkins). Falcons pitching included appearances by Zach Stup, RHP, 2011, Kyle Hamby, RHP/OF, 2011, Kevin Doherty, LHP, 2012, and Andrew Gottlieb, RHP/1B, 2011. With Dematha's 7-3 loss to SJC, Good Counsel is now tied for first with SJC in the WCAC at 4-1.
Next up, Falcons try to bounce back this Saturday Apr. 3rd at 11:30 a.m against the Linganore Lancers at the Mt. St. Joseph's tournament in Baltimore.
