Falcons Overcome Deficit - Beat PVI 7-6

In a battle of WCAC heavyweights Tuesday night, the Good Counsel Falcons came from behind to defeat the Paul VI Panthers for the second time this season and capture sole possession of first place in the conference. Falcons' senior right fielder, Matt Kohn (Johns Hopkins) set the tone early launching a solo bomb (3) up into the left center field bleachers to give the Falcons the early lead 1-0 in the top of the first inning Panthers junior shortstop, Lance Veeder answered with a 3-run left field shot to put the Panthers up 3-1 in the bottom of the first. The Panthers extended their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the 3rd.  But, the Falcons refused to quit and battled back to tie it up at 6 before hot hitting junior catcher, TJ Brockway, delivered the game winning sacrifice fly RBI to right field to score AJ Bowman in the top of the 7th and give the Falcons the knockout punch they needed for the victory.

Several Falcons continued to string together consecutive multi-hit games. Key hits included a double by equally red hot hitting senior DH, AJ Bowman (St. Francis), a double by TJ Brockway, a deep sac fly to advance the runner by senior outfielder, Kyle Porter (Florida Gulf Coast CC), a sac fly RBI by junior second baseman, Carter Bidwick, an RBI single by Matt Kohn, a couple of laser shots by senior shortstop, Nick Trotta, Jr., and a double by senior first baseman and closing pitcher, Jake Taylor (Radford). Sophomore LHP, Kevin Doherty started the game for GC, with solid relief performances by fellow sophomore, Danny Martinson, RHP, and a classic three inning closing performance by senior Jake Taylor, RHP, who closed the door on the Panthers for good. Falcons improve to 15-2 overall and 8-1 in WCAC conference play.

Next up, Bishop Ireton at Bottegal field, Thursday, April 22 at 4PM.
