Grove Blasts Two Homers in 11-5 Win Over Ireton

Students that park their cars along the right field fence area at Bottegal Field know better than to leave them there after school during a Falcons' baseball game. Especially when lefty, Brandon Grove, 1B, 3B, 2010 (UNCG) is scheduled to hit. "Grover" went yard twice today with two monstrous shots over the RF fence, one 400+-foot shot narrowly missed "Concession Carl's" pickup truck and the other pounded the roof of the stadium ticket office for a total of 5 RBIs. Jake Taylor, 1B, RHP, (Radford) also contributed a bomb over the deepest part of the CF fence as the Falcons extended their WCAC conference record to 9-1.  Five Falcons pitchers saw time on the hill including starter, Zach Stup, RHP, 2011 and relievers, Collin McGowan, RHP, 2012, Nick Kennedy, RHP, 2011, Kyle Hamby, RHP, OF, 2011, and closer, Danny Martinson, RHP, C, 2012.

Hamby was especially impressive fanning 5 out of 6 batters in his two innings on the bump.   Matt Kohn, OF, 2010 (Johns Hopkins) provided early firepower with a line-drive triple down the right field line in the first inning, and later a 2-RBI single. AJ Bowman, DH, 2010 (St. Francis - football) contributed 2 key RBI sac flies to further the Falcons lead. TJ Brockway, C, 2011, Carter Bidwick, 2B, RHP, 2011, and Kyle Porter, OF, 2010 (Florida Gulf Coast CC) each tallied key hits in the second game in a row where Falcon batters were targets of Cardinal pitchers (3 HBP in first game, 2HBP in this game, including an injury to and trip to the ER for Team Captain, Nick Trotta, SS, 2010.)
